The rails on our beds are mortised into the posts and secured with bed bolts, a very strong connection. The box spring is supported by bed irons which can be ordered to accommodate the box spring + mattress thickness. On king and queen size beds a center support is also provided. Alternatively, a slat system is available to support the mattress directly, giving a cleaner look.
